Limerick 0-5 (0-3) Tipperary 3-17 (2-9)

All-Ireland U16A Championship Group 1 Round 3

Venue: Newcastle West

Time: Saturday 20th July 2pm

Limerick’s U16 team faced a uphill battle to salvage something from their last game of the season. But ultimately a Tipperary side that have beaten all-comers so far this year were too much and they ran out deserving winners by 3-17 to 0-5.

It was a game that Limerick were going to have to get a few breaks to get into and none were forthcoming on the day. Tipperary dominated from the off taking points steadily to lead by six points to one Leah Riordan free for Limerick at the halfway point. Limerick had a few goal chances but a combination of some excellent saves and strong defending meant that none were converted. Instead it was Tipperary who scored the games first goal. Tipp continued to build their score through the half and Limerick were to score only two further points one a free from Leah Riordan and the other a point from play from Caoimhe Lyons. Tipperary scored another goal in injury to leave Limerick with a mountain to climb in the second half.

Ultimately it was to be too much for Limerick as Tipperary 1-8 to two Leah Riordan frees to run out deserving winners. A tough day for Limerick but the girls battled hard and just came up against a team at the top of their game. All credit to the players and management who put in great work throughout the year and I'm sure many of these girls have bright futures in the game and will be seen again in the Green of Limerick.
