Limerick continued their winning streak in Bruff with an emphatic demolition of Antrim by 4-21 to 2-3. This followed an opening day 18 point victory over Kildare and must put Limerick in pole position to progress to the semi-finals.

An opening point from Minor winning captain Caoimhe Costelloe set the tone. This was followed by a fantastic goal from Niamh Ryan after receiving a hand pass from Mairead Fitzgerald on the 4th minute. Limerick again got possession and landed the sliotar into full forward Aoife Sheehan who again found the net. 5 minutes into the game and limerick lead 2-1 to no score. Racquel McCarry opened the scoring for Antrim with a point midway into the 5th minute from a free. Limerick again came on the attack again with 2 points from Niamh Mulcahy one if which was a placed 45. The ball was pucked out and an impressive catch from midfielder Mary O Callaghan set Niamh Mulcahy off again to raise the white flag. 13 minutes into the game and Antrim got their 2nd and last score of the first half. Niamh Ryan was substituted with an injured hand which saw the introduction of Meadhbh O Neill. Limerick surely kept the umpires very busy replying to 4 unanswered points, 3 points from Niamh Mulcahy, 2 of which were frees and seconds before the half time whistle Mairead Fitzgerald. Half time score in Bruff Limerick 2-8 to 0-2.

One change on this Limerick team saw Rebecca Delee coming in to replace Caoimhe Costelloe. Limerick came out in firing form with 4 unanswered points coming from the sticks of Mairead Fitzgerald, Deborah Murphy and Niamh Mulcahy (free). Mairead Fitzgerald is really putting the fullback line under pressure putting the ball over the bar from all angles. 8 minutes into the second half shows Limerick 2-12 Antrim 0-2. Antrim came on the attack and were searching for some scores and on the 8th minute full forward Racquel McCarry saw the net. Limerick really dominated the game after this getting 1-6 unanswered. Niamh Mulcahy opened up the lead with a point on the 10th minute followed by Full Forward Aoife Sheehan yet again rattling the net followed by points from Deborah Murphy, Mairead Fitzgerald, Sarah Carey, Rebecca De Lee and Aoife Sheehan who in total added 2-1 to the limerick scoreboard.

Limerick introduced a few subs with Karen O Leary replacing Mary O Callaghan, Mairead Ryan for Deborah Murphy and Lorraine McCarthy for Mairead Fitzgerald. Limerick conceded a goal on the 22nd minute with Half Forward Charlene Hamill raising the green flag but this was quickly returned with 2 points from an outstanding centre Forward Niamh Mulcahy. With 3 minutes on the clock to Full time the scoreboard is reading Limerick 3-20 Antrim 2-2. 28 minutes on the clock and Antrim got their final point from full forward Racquel McCarry which brings her tally today to 1-3 out of 2-3. Limerick again put their foot on the accelerator again with a free from Niamh Mulcahy and 10 seconds to go to the final whistle Substitute Maedhbh finished the game in style with a final goal. Referee John Dolan blows the final whistle on a scoreline of Limerick 4-21 Antrim 2-3. A comfortable win for Limerick. Credit has to be given to the management team of Joe Quaid, Ger Sheehy, Patsy Hall, Ann Herbert and Willie Banks. Next up for Limerick is Galway in Athenry next Saturday 5th July.
