Limerick's Camogie team continued their winning ways at the weekend against Antrim.

Limerick Captain Michelle Casey was a withdrawal due to Injury so Deirdre Fitzpatrick stepped up to the plate to lead the team on the day.

Limerick got off to a slow start going 1-2 to 0-2 down in the first quarter. A goal from no 11 Natalie McGuinness gave Antrim the lead. Limerick however came back with a few points and then a flick on from Deirdre Fitzpatrick sent Marie Keating off on a solo run and she hit the sliotar on the run low and hard and into the bottom left corner. Limerick gor on top then with some fancy stick work from Caoimhe Costello on the far sideline leading to her putting the ball over the bar. These scores were followed by points from Deirdre Fitpatrick, Deborah Murphy, Dympna O'Brien, another point from Caoimhe Costello, 2 points from Sarah Carey and 5 points from Niamh Mulcahy 3 from play and 2 from frees which gave a half time score of Limerick 1-14 Antrim 1-4.

Limerick started the second half well with points coming from great team play and great passing movements A number of which ended with Niamh Mulcahy who scored 5 points in the second half 3 from play and 2 from frees. A penalty was awarded to Antrim but Judith Mulcahy got a stick to it and the ball was cleared out. There was further points scored by Sarah Carey and Mary O'Callaghan. A further goal from Natalie McGuinness brought Antrim back into the game but at this stage Limerick were firing points over the bar from all directions. In the final 10 minutes Deborah Murphy sustained an injury and had to be substituted by Katie Campbell. The final score in Crumlin was Limerick 1-21 to Antrim 2-9. Even though Limerick only scored 7 points in the second half there was a lot of team play and fantastic defending with Limerick only conceeding two frees in the second half.

This weekend should see a tougher challenge for the girls as they travel south on Sunday to face Cork.
