Ahane 1-16 Newcastle West 1-3

Senior League Final

Sun 30th April in Rathkeale

Ahane won their first Senior title in over 40 years with an impressive 1-16 to 1-3 win over Newcastle West on Sunday. The game got off to a dramatic start when Newcastle West broke straight from the throw-in and found the back of the net within the first seconds of the game. But Ahane didn't panic and gradually closed the gap and opened a lead of their own. Indeed they were to keep Newcastle West scoreless until late in the second half. This was achieved by a combination of the expected scoring threat of the Ahane forwards lead by Niamh Mulcahy and a top quality display of hooking and blocking by every player which broke down Newcastle's attacks at source.

A goal just before the break sent Ahane in 1-12 to 1-0 ahead. Playing into a stiff breeze in the second half played havoc with Ahane's accuracy but they still managed to contain the Newcastle threat and lead 1-14 to 1-0 at the midway point in the half. A late flurry saw Newcastle West add to their opening score but Ahane ran out as impressive winners by 1-16 to 1-3. Captain Judith Mulcahy accepted the trophy on behalf of the team.

Crecora 2-12 Newcastle West 0-4

Intermediate League Final

Sun 30th April in Ballyagran

Crecora achieved Senior status at the third time of asking with an impressive 2-12 to 0-4 win over Newcastle West in Ballyagran on Sunday. The game was tightly contested throughout and it was only in the final quarter that Crecora pulled away to open a substantial margin at the final whistle. The opening half was a low scoring affair with Crecora narrowly edging it 0-5 to 0-2 at the break. The game remained in the balance and Crecora led 0-10 to 0-4 with five minutes to go, but an unanswered 2-2 in the closing minutes gave Crecora a comprehensive victory.

Limerick 1-8 Kerry 3-10

Munster Junior Quarter-Final

Mon 1st May in Causeway

Limerick's Junior team went out of the Munster Junior championship to an experienced Kerry side in Causeway on Monday evening. This young panel were competitive for much of the game and led 1-5 to 0-7 at half-time thanks to a Siobhán Tangney goal. However a scoring flurry just after the break opened a big lead for Kerry. Despite a strong fightback by Limerick the margin was too great and a late goal from Kerry was to give the Kingdom a larger margin than the tie waranted.

Munster U14 Inter-County Blitz

The Munster U14 inter-county blitz was held in Clare this year and took place on bank holiday Monday in St. Flannan’s College and Eire Og Ennis. Limerick again fielded two teams for this blitz.

The Limerick Green team played Clare in the first game losing to their hosts but picked up momentum in the next three games to beat Tipperary, Galway and Cork all by a narrow margin of one point, winning the Cork match with the last puck of the ball. Limerick went on to contest the A Munster Final which they lost by one point against the host team Clare.

The Limerick White team played Galway and Clare in their first two games of the day winning both and playing Cork in their third game losing this game . Limerick went on to contest the B final against Cork, but it was not to be Limerick’s day losing out to the Leesiders . Overall it was a great day for both teams reaching their respective finals. Well done to all involved, thanks to the hosts on the day and all the parents that travelled to support.
