Limerick 3-12 Dublin 0-2

Irish Daily Star League Division 4

Sunday 6th April 1pm in Crumlin

A one-sided encounter in O’Toole Park Crumlin saw Limerick see off Dublin by 3-13 to 0-2.

Limerick playing with what was a significantly strong breeze got off to the best possible start when Mairead Clancy hit the back of the net from close range. Four points followed from Margaret Lynch, Rebecca Noonan, Mairead Clancy and Kristy Carroll as Dublin struggled to clear their lines against the breeze.

Limerick were dominating the centre of the park with Caitrin de Bhal and Sarah Crotty feeding quality ball into the forward line. Dublin’s keeper denied Limerick again and again until Margaret Lynch pounced on a rebound to make the score Limerick 2-4 to Dublin 0-0.

Dublin finally got on the score board with a free but Limerick added a further 1-4 before the break including a second goal from Margaret Lynch to give Limerick a comprehensive 3-8 to 0-1 lead at half-time.

The lead looked unassailable but with Dublin playing with the breeze in the second half there was an expectation of a comeback. This never materialized as two missed frees early in the half illustrated and with the Limerick backs led by captain Noreen Barry dominant and Lisa Scanlon and Katie Hennessy impressive in the half backs Dublin struggled to find their rhythm.

Limerick added four points in the second half including three frees from the accurate Lisa Scanlon bringing her own score from the placed ball to five. Dublin got one other score also from the placed ball but Limerick ran out impressive winners by 3-12 to 0-2.

Limerick go forward to play Tyrone in the Division 4 semi-final on Sunday 20th April while Dublin play Kerry on the other side of the draw.
