Aoife Coughlan U11 Catain 09 | Crecora under 12 Camogie Team capture County Under 12 A Title
Last Thursday evening, Crecora u12 camogie Team added another chapter to the Clubs history when they captured the A title for the first time.
In a match played in near ideal conditions in Croagh, Crecora & Newcastle west served up a game with an abundance of skill, determination & honest endeavour .The game was played in a true sporting fashion & is surely an example of how the game of camogie should be played.
Newcastle west started well & with the aid of a slight breeze were a goal & a point up within the first few minutes. Slowly the Crecora girls came to terms with their opponents & scores from Aoife Coughlan (1 point free) & Dearbhla Egan (1goal & 1 point from play) edged themselves ahead. Newcastle drew level again just before half time. At half time the teams were level 1goal & 2 points each.
In the second half Crecora pressed hard & a great goal from Jane Mangan edged them ahead again. Newcastle west responded with a goal to level the game.
Niamh Keyes goaled for Crecora with a few minutes remaining & the final score a point from a free from Dearbhla Egan deep into injury time ensured that Crecora were victorious on the night. The final whistle was greeted by the ecstatic cheers of the large Crecora supporters in attendance. The cup was presented to our captain on the night Jane Mangan.
On the night the backline of Orla Ryan, Freda Kirby, Fiona Hogan, Niamh O Dowd, Aoife Coughlan & Aoife Hayes defended superbly. The midfield of Jane Mangan & Orna Rea ensured the constant supply of ball to the forwards. The forwards of Aislinn Condon, Ciara Murphy, Niamh Keyes,Roisin Howard , Aisling Coughlan & Dearbhla Egan worked tirelessly individually & as unit to ensure that chances were created & taken.
It is important to acknowledge that the other members of the panel not mentioned above who made a huge contribution during the course of the competition & to the ultimate success which was achieved. They were Caoimhe Sheehan, Megan Bateman, Orla Byrnes, Chloe Daly, Kate o Donnell, Emer Kennedy, Shannon Roche, Karen Murphy, Mairead O Riordan, Shona Hickey, Roisin Gleeson, Isabelle Shier,Ciara Mc Carthy.
A word of thanks to Crecora Camogie Club Committee & other Coaches who have contributed to the above success. To Crecora GAA club for use of the pitch etc. A big Thanks to those involved in the development of Camogie through the school. Without all of you this success would have not been possible. Finally to the players & Parents, thanks for your efforts & support during the year.

Crecora Camogie Club was formerly known as Mungret/Crecora Camogie Club. However, In 1994 the club changed its name to Crecora Camogie Club and for the first time in many years the club fielded teams at u/10 and u/12 level. Over the next 10 years the club went from strength to strength reaching many County Finals at all age groups and being successful on a lot of occasions. |
